DMK councillor Jeganathan protests in Corporation meeting over delayed road repairs, prompting Mayor's assurance for swift action.
Accompanied by the public, DMK councillor Jeganathan of ward 5 staged dharna during the Corporation’s weekly grievances redress meeting held on Tuesday.
Even as Mayor G. Ramakrishnan was receiving petitions from the public, Mr. Jeganathan, who came to the meeting hall with the public, sat on the floor in protest against the delay in repairing damaged roads in his ward.
Mr. Jeganathan said the Corporation administration was in no mood to relay the damaged roads even though underground drainage work in several parts of his ward had been completed.
“Despite repeated appeals narrating our ordeals being caused by damaged roads, the Corporation adamantly refuses to fulfil this basic demand. Hence, we’re protesting,” Mr. Jeganathan said.
The councillor pointed-out that the Corporation had spent ₹83 lakh for laying the road for benefitting a private school on Seevalperi Road even though it was not a residential area.
As the councillor’s agitation continued, Mr. Ramakrishnan also sat on the floor and asked Mr. Jeganathan and the public to stop their protest. He assured that the damaged roads in ward 5 would be repaired at the earliest that effectively stopped the agitation.
