Hyderabad police arrest three for selling counterfeit tea, detergent, and mosquito repellent, warning consumers to verify product authenticity.
Three persons were arrested by the Hyderabad police for manufacturing and supplying duplicate tea powder, detergent powder, and mosquito repellent refills in the city.
The accused were identified as Jaya Ram, 30, a businessman from Begum Bazar; Kachhawa Surendera, 34, a businessman from Quthbullapur; and Hanuman Ram, 21, a native of Barmer district in Rajasthan.
The arrests followed raids by Special Crime Team of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Goshamahal and Afzalgunj police on March 2, 2026. During the operation, police seized large quantities of duplicate products including 1,340 packets of Red Label tea powder in various sizes, 100 packets of Taj Mahal tea powder, 950 packets of Tide detergent, 100 packets of Ariel detergent, 300 packets of Wheel detergent and 550 packets of Surf Excel powder. In addition, 3,600 small bottles of Good Night mosquito repellent refills, 9,500 duplicate label packing covers of various brands and 75 kilograms of raw tea powder were recovered.
Investigation revealed that the accused allegedly procured low-quality raw materials and duplicate packaging covers from dealers in Gujarat at discounted rates. They would then pack and supply the counterfeit goods to retail and wholesale shops in areas such as Goshamahal, Afzalgunj and Begumbazar, passing them off as genuine branded products at lower prices.
Police have advised consumers to exercise caution while purchasing household items and to verify the authenticity of products by checking QR codes and other security features before making a purchase.
