Deputy CM Udhayanidhi inaugurates a new ₹32.32 crore hospital building in Chepauk, enhancing healthcare for women and children.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday (March 1, 2026) inaugurated a new building constructed at Institute of Social Obstetrics and Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children campus in Chepauk.
The building has been constructed at a cost of ₹32.32 crore, with a total built-up area of 66,658 square feet, consisting of a ground floor and two upper floors. The building is equipped with 100 beds.
While the ground floor of the new building consists of facilities such as operation theatres, a blood sample collection unit, and a laboratory, the first and second floor houses labour monitoring rooms, labour wards, postnatal care units, neonatal care, continuous monitoring and resuscitation facilities, and an isolation ward for infectious diseases and modern operation theatres, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical facilities, post-operative care units, continuous monitoring facilities, anaesthesia and pain management services.
Mr. Udhayanidhi inspected the state-of-the-art operation theatres and maternity treatment facilities established in the additional building. In the year 2025 alone, the hospital recorded 1,70,731 Outpatients (OP) visits and 1,32,886 Inpatients (IP) admissions.
During 2025, the hospital conducted 6,265 normal deliveries, 2,730 Caesarean (LSCS) surgeries, 4,323 major surgeries, 8,418 minor surgeries, and 1,200 family welfare surgeries. Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian, Member of Parliament Dayanidhi Maran, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) P. Senthil Kumar, I.A.S., were present.
