Madras High Court CJ’s XI loses to AG’s XI again in T-20 trophy; Justice Venkatesh shines as man of the match.
The Madras High Court Chief Justice’s XI lost to Advocate General’s XI at the ninth edition of the T-20 rolling trophy match held at the M.A. Chidambaram cricket stadium at Chepauk in Chennai on Saturday (February 28, 2026). This is the eighth time that the judges have lost to the lawyers with the only exception being the third edition of the match held in January 2020.
Though Justice N. Sathish Kumar, the on-field captain of Chief Justice’s XI, won the toss and chose to bat first, the Advocate General’s XI, led by its on-field captain V. Ramesh, succeeded in containing the opponents to just 111 runs after losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Given the conditions of the pitch, this was considered an easily reachable total in the second innings.
Initially, Justices Kumar and Abdul Quddhose opened the innings for the Chief Justice’s XI with a fiery touch. Justice Quddhose drove two balls to the boundaries and had scored eight runs out of just four balls before he got caught behind the wickets by the keeper, much to the disappointment of the judges, in a fantastic display of swing by advocate Deivanandam.
Thereafter, Justice G.K. Ianthiraiyan returned to the dressing room quickly without making any runs. However, Justice Kumar stayed firmly on the field by scoring 18 runs out of 18 balls. He too had driven two balls to the boundary when senior counsel M.S. Krishnan took a brilliant catch in advocate Muizz Ali’s bowling. Subsequently, Justice K. Rajasekar scored 14 out of 12 balls.
Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, who was subsequently declared the man of the match, remained not out after making 31 runs out of 40 balls. He enthralled his team by driving four balls to the boundary. While Justice K. Kumaresh Babu scored seven out of 16 balls, Justices D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and P. Dhanabal got run out with single digit scores. Justices Sunder Mohan and M. Dhandapani too could not contribute much.
In the second innings, Justice Venkatesh displayed his skill with the ball too by claiming the wicket of the A-G’s XI on-field captain Mr. Ramesh who was bowled out after scoring 13 out of 13 balls. In quick succession, Justice C. Saravanan bowled out Advocate General P.S. Raman after the latter scored just four runs out of six balls. Justice Chakravarthy took the wicket of advocate V. Karthikeyan who had scored 22 out of 25 balls.
