
Delta now dominant Covid variant in most of Europe, warn WHO and ECDC

The WHO's Regional Office for Europe and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have warned that if current trends continue, Delta could soon become the globally dominant variant of Covid-19.
Delta is now the dominant variant of Covid-19 in most of Europe, the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned on Monday. Along with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the WHO said that efforts to prevent transmission of the Delta variant must be reinforced. According to the WHO's Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe), surveillance data from the period between June 28 and July 11 shows that Delta was the dominant variant of SARS-CoV-2 in at least 19 of the 28 European countries that reported sufficient genetic sequencing information.
The IRGC claimed it had "successfully targeted" the US aircraft, though it did not immediately provide details on the location, extent of damage or the fate of the pilot. There has been no immediate confirmation from the United States military, which has previously disputed similar claims by Iran during the conflict.

Continuing on their string of victories in special elections since 2024, Democrats flipped the long-held Republican 87th House District in the Florida State House on Tuesday. The win, which comes ahead of the critical midterms in November, also hands Democrats a seat that is home to President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate.
