Delhi Mundka fire: 3 officials suspended after building found to lack safety equipment

Three officials have been suspended after it was found that the building in Delhi's Mundka where a massive fire erupted last week was operating without the required No Objection Certificate and safety clearances.

Two section officers and one licensing inspector have been suspended in connection with the Delhi Mundka fire that claimed 27 lives last week.

This comes after the North Delhi Municipal Corporation ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to Delhi Fire Services director Atul Garg, the building where the fire broke out did not have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and necessary safety protocol had not been followed on any of the floors. Additionally, the building did not house any of the equipment needed to extinguish fire, he said.

The civic body has also ordered a survey of properties operating without NOCs in the area under its jurisdiction.

Twenty-seven people died after a massive fire broke out at an office building in Mundka in Delhi at around 4.45 pm on Friday.

The four-storey building was used as office space for multiple companies. The fire broke out on the first floor of the building, which served as the office for a company that manufactures CCTV cameras and routers.

According to the Delhi Police's FIR, the building did not have fire safety protocol in place. There was only one entry and exit gate for over 100 employees working in the Mundka building.
