Delhi HC orders removal of 'obscene' song by Honey Singh and Badshah, citing misogynistic lyrics and disregard for decency.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday (April 2, 2026) directed the removal of a controversial song allegedly released by rappers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah in 2006, terming it “vulgar, patently obscene, derogatory towards women.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav observed that the lyrics were “not merely distasteful or offensive” but “ex facie misogynistic, dehumanising and calculated to normalise the treatment of women as objects of ridicule and sexual gratification”.
Directing that the song be taken down from online platforms, the court said even its title “cannot be written in this order”.
“There comes a time, however, rare it may be, when the conscience of a Court is shocked to its absolute core. This is, unfortunately, one such instance,” the court remarked as it issued notices to both Honey Singh and Badshah.
The order came on a petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal through advocates Rupali Panwar, Shubham Gupta and Avinash Kumar Singh. The plea contended that the song, released under the name “Mafia Mundeer” around 2006-07, continues to be circulated on YouTube, garnering millions of views.
The petitioner further alleged that Mr. Singh recently performed portions of the song during a concert at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
