Cyclone Asani moved close to the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday morning though the severe cyclonic storm weakened into a cyclonic storm. Andhra Pradesh issued a 'red' warning for the coast. Nine teams of both SDRF and NDRF have been deployed for relief operations.
The cyclone triggered heavy rains in several places across the state. The capital city of Visakhapatnam received heavy rains as the storm approached Andhra coast.

The cyclonic system 40 km south of Andhra's Machilipatnam. It is likely to move nearly northwards for next few hour and recurve slowly north-northeastwards and emerge into westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra coasts by night, the IMD said. It is likely to weaken gradually into a depression by May 12.
