Covid-19 third wave: Delhi could see 50k cases daily; peak likely in a week

The Covid third wave peak in Delhi is expected to arrive in a week and the city could see 50,000-60,000 cases daily.
Delhi is one of the worst Covid-hit cities and has been seeing a spurt in Covid-19 cases for the past few days. On Sunday, the national capital clocked 22,751 fresh coronavirus infections, the highest single-day count since June 13 last year, with 17 fatalities. The city's health department said that the positivity rate in the city stood at 23.53 per cent and the number of rising cases has become a matter of concern for the authorities. Extrapolating from Mumbai, we estimate that peak could arrive in Jan-end/Feb-beginning. Its value could be between 4-8 lakh cases per day (7-day average).
Manindra Agarwal, IIT Kanpur professor, told ANI that Delhi is likely to see Covid-19 third wave peak around the middle of this month. Agarwal said that the city will see a peak in Covid cases in the coming few days, but the wave will be almost over by the end of this month in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
