Construction workers stage demo in support of demands

Construction workers owing allegiance to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) staged a demonstration here on Wednesday in support of their demands including increasing the monthly pension to ₹6,000.
The demonstration held near the Collectorate was led by C. Selvakumar, district secretary, Tamil Nadu AITUC Construction Workers Union, Tiruchi.
Fixing the retirement age of women workers at 50; providing six-month salary to women workers during their maternity leave; implementation of ESI and Provident Fund for workers and provision of housing facility for homeless workers were among their other demands. Earlier, the construction workers majority of whom were women took out a rally from the Vestry school roundabout to the Collectorate.

The Ottiyambakkam panchayat had an harrowingly difficult time keeping people from swimming in the deadly quarry with its protruding rocks under the water. There had been many deaths. And then nature intervened, and the fatal accidents stopped. An invasive, floating weed that is a bane of water sources everywhere, the water hyacinth is not just tolerated in the quarry but welcomed
