Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspects the ₹300-crore Thanthai Periyar Library project in Coimbatore, emphasizing its progress and features.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Friday (February 27, 2026) inspected the Thanthai Periyar Library and Science Centre, which is likely to be named Periyar Arivulagam, being built at an estimated cost of ₹300 crore at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore.
The centre is coming up on 6.98 acres of land belonging to the Coimbatore Central Prison. The proposed structure has a built-up area of 1.98 lakh square feet with a ground floor and seven floors. The Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone on November 6, 2024.
Officials said most of the civil works have been completed, except for parking, lawns and pavements near the entrance. Interior works have been completed and interactive STEM-based installations are under testing and commissioning phase.
The ground floor will have an auditorium, a library section for persons with disabilities and a space-themed lift. The first floor will house the reception and a science centre. The second floor will have a children’s library and self-reading section, while the third floor will include a competitive examination library and the chief librarian’s office.
The fourth floor will have Tamil books and periodicals. The fifth and sixth floors will house English books and incubation centres. The seventh floor will feature a science centre and a digital library. About 1.25 lakh books are to be made available.
The Chief Minister reviewed the project model and progress photographs and directed officials to expedite the remaining works.

Hundreds of unemployed youth, including college students, participated in the job fair organised by the Shivamogga district administration and Zilla Panchayat on Friday. The administration invited over 30 companies that offered job opportunities to youth, including those who had failed in SSLC and PUC.

The Department of Clinical Psychology at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) organised a national seminar and Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) event on “Current trends and emerging challenges in the assessment and management of specific learning disability (SLD)” here recently. The two-day event brought together leading professionals, academicians, and researchers.
