Dindigul Corporation presents a deficit Budget
A deficit Budget of ₹5.01 crore was presented by Mayor J. Ilamathi at Dindigul Corporation on Friday.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor Ilamathi, Deputy Mayor S. Rajappa and Dindigul Corporation officials. Tributes were paid to freedom fighter and Communist leader R. Nallakannu who passed away in Chennai on Wednesday.
A total of 34 resolutions were passed at the meeting. The revenue of the Corporation in the financial year 2025-2026 was ₹127.92 crore and the expenditure was ₹122.08 crore. A surplus of ₹5.84 crore. In the financial year 2026-2027, the revenue was ₹137.05 crore and the expenditure was ₹142.07 lakh. A deficit of ₹5.01 crore
During the council meeting, BJP Councillor G. Dhanabalan (ward 14) raised issues with regard to the maintenance and cleaning of underground drainage system. He said though the government had allocated funds, sewage was getting stagnated on the roads.
AIADMK Councillor M. Sathiyavani (Ward 15) said though the issue was being repeatedly raised before the authorities, no action had been taken so far by them. How many more times should the issue be highlighted for an appropriate action to be taken, she asked. The Mayor assured that the issue would be looked into and the problem would be resolved.
CPI (M) Councillor S. Jothibasu (Ward 35) highlighted the need for an adequate number of vehicles to be deployed for garbage collection in each of the wards. He pointed out that the lack of an adequate number of vehicles for garage collection had led to dumping of garbage along the road margins and the garbage was accumulating. He urged the authorities to look into the issue.
