Chandigarh University video row: 2 held, students demand apology as protests continue
India Today
Amid flaring controversy over alleged private videos from Chandigarh University 'leaked' onto the internet, the varsity announced September 19 and 20 will be non-teaching days for students.
Amid the raging controversy over the alleged 'leak' of objectionable videos from Chandigarh University's campus, Punjab Police arrested a female student and her friend, a resident of Shimla, on Sunday. Massive protests broke out on the premises, post-midnight on Saturday, after students alleged that 'private' and 'objectionable' videos of several female hostel inmates were leaked on the internet.

The students alleged that the videos of nearly 60 girls taking baths in the hostel leaked. On the other hand, the varsity issued a statement that one video was circulated. Moreover, it was captured and circulated by the accused. They said that the girl had made the video and shared it herself with her friend in Himachal Pradesh.
Following a day-long protest, speculation was rife about the university trying to conceal the truth. On one hand, the university said that there was no attempt to suicide and that they were ready to hold talks with students. On the other hand, students alleged that the university had been concealing the 'truth'.
Students, however, said that they would take up discussions with the vice chancellor only if the talk was carried out in public view openly. Students also alleged that the police used force against the students who had been protesting.
In the latest development, students have sought an apology from the management.
