Chandigarh University 'leaked' video row: Varsity orders 2-day closure, students demand 'open talks'

Flagging 'unavoidable reasons', Chandigarh University ordered two-day closure amid the 'private video leak' row.
Amid flaring controversy over alleged private videos from Chandigarh University 'leaked' onto the internet, the varsity announced September 19 and 20 will be non-teaching days for students. Flagging 'unavoidable reasons' as the justification for the closure, the university has asked all teachers and staffers to be present on both days.
"Other essential services will also be maintained as usual," the university's registrar stated.
Following the notice of the closure, students from the varsity questioned the decision and even accused the authorities of concealing 'details'. They further alleged that the police force used force against the students who had been protesting.
Also, the DSW ( Department of Student Welfare ) of Chandigarh University appealed and requested the students to form a committee and that the university was ready to hold talks with regards to the controversy. Students, however, said that they would take up discussions with the vice chancellor only if the talk was carried out in public view openly.
The development came to the fore after Chandigarh University's pro-chancellor issued a statement clarifying there have been no suicides or deaths on campus. The authorities also said that the video had been leaked by a girl student, who herself sent the video to one of her friends.
"No student committed suicide. A preliminary probe reveals that the accused girl had sent her own pictures/videos to her boyfriend. No other material was found. FIR filed. Police are probing it. I appeal to students and parents not to believe any rumours," the pro-chancellor said.
The accused girl's friend, identified as a resident of Shimla, has been arrested. As per sources, the girl from Rohru (Shimla) made videos of other girls at CU and later shared them with her friend Sahil, who runs a cosmetics shop in Rohru.
