Centre issues NOTAM, closes at least 24 airports for civilian flights until May 15

Civil Aviation Ministry extends closure of 24 airports in India amid tensions with Pakistan until May 15.
Amid escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Civil Aviation Ministry on Friday (May 9, 2025) extended the closure of at least 24 airports for civilian flights until 5.29 a.m. on May 15.

Most of these airports are in north, west and central India and includes prominent airports such as Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Rajkot.
The decision to extend the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for the closure of these airports was taken after Pakistan targeted civilian installations across several cities on the night of May 8. Earlier, these airports were closed for civilian flights till May 10.
The airports include those in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Shimla, Bhuntar, Kangra-Gaggal, Bikaner, Kishangarh, Mundra, Jamnagar, Hirasar, Porbandar, Keshod, Kandla and Bhuj.
“Following a notification from aviation authorities on continued closure of multiple airports in India, Air India flights to and from the following stations – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Rajkot – are being cancelled till 5.29 a.m. on May 15, pending further updates. Customers holding valid tickets for travel during this period will be offered a one-time waiver on rescheduling charges or a full refund for cancellations,” Air India said in a post on X.
IndiGo added that bookings made on or before May 8 are eligible for fee waiver on change of travel date or cancellation fee waiver for travel until May 22 to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kishangarh and Rajkot.
