Caught on cam: Woman falls into pit dug for storm water drain in TN’s Chengelpattu

A resident of Chengelpet in Tamil Nadu fell into a pit that was dug outside her house for storm water drain work. The pit was filled with water due to heavy rainfall in the area on Thursday. She escaped unhurt and the incident was caught on CCTV cameras in the area.

The woman, a resident of the 12th ward, was leaving her home when she fell into the pit and got submerged up to her shoulders. Thankfully, she wasn’t seriously injured. She managed to climb out of the pit despite being drenched and walked away.
Commuters in the area helped her cross the road, which was also captured on a CCTV camera.
Mudichur and surrounding areas received heavy rainfall on Thursday, leading to water stagnation. The pre-onset of monsoon has begun to deliver a good amount of rainfall to various locations in Tamil Nadu. The weather forecast for Chennai and surrounding areas also predicted rainfall until Sunday.
Meanwhile, stormwater drainage system work is yet to be completed in many areas. Activists have repeatedly warned that such incomplete work poses a danger to the public. Earlier in September, a man trying to reverse his bike fell into a pit dug for stormwater drains in an area on the outskirts of Chennai.
