Britain breaks all-time temperature record with 39.1 degrees Celsius

A record high temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius has provisionally been recorded in southern England, Britain's weather department said on Tuesday.
A record high temperature of 39.1C (102.4F) has provisionally been recorded in Charlwood, Surrey, in southern England, Britain's Met Office said on Tuesday.
"If confirmed this will be the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK. Temperatures are likely to rise further through today," the Met Office said on Twitter.
The previous record of 38.7C was recorded in the Cambridge University Botanic Garden in 2019.
Meanwhile, in what is one of the rarest events, the United Kingdom has sounded a red alert, the country’s first-ever extreme heat warning, as hot, dry weather scorches mainland Europe.
Brits experienced temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius throughout Monday and Tuesday.
According to UK’s Met Office, the highest temperature ever recorded in Britain previously was 38.7 degrees Celsius in 2019.
The current heat in Britain is reflected across much of Europe, where extreme temperatures and lack of rain are leading to multiple major wildfires in France, Spain and elsewhere.
