A 10-year-old child died after being branded with a hot spoon and made to inhale burning chilli as punishment for reportedly stealing Rs 70 from a relative's home. The incident took place at Perambalur in Tamil Nadu.

On Thursday, a relative of the girl had complained to her mother that the child had taken Rs 70 from their home. When she was informed about the incident, the mother became furious. In a bid to rebuke the child, she branded her with a hot spoon and made her inhale the smoke from burning dried chilli.
