A 30-year-old man in Bengaluru was electrocuted at a bus stand on Saturday after he came in contact with a live wire. It has been alleged that the wire was drawn illegally from a nearby electric pole to power the advertising panel at the bus stand.

A 30-year-old man in Bengaluru died of electrocution near the Hebbal bus stand on Saturday night, May 14. The man came in contact with a live electric wire that had been illegally drawn to the bus stand by an advertising company.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 9.40 pm on Saturday. The man accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire, which is said to have been drawn illegally by a private advertising company to light up an advertisement panel at the bus shelter.

Hebbal Police have registered a case in connection with the incident. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) said that the power was drawn illegally from the nearby electric pole to the bus shelter. BESCOM has decided to file a complaint against the private advertising agency.

HD Chennakeshava, an executive engineer at BESCOM said, "The man’s death came to our notice after the Hebbal police informed us. A complaint has been registered regarding this at the Hebbal police station. The deceased hasn't been identified and is said to be around 35-years-old.”

According to eyewitnesses, he was electrocuted after he sat on the seat of the bus stand. The advertisement board belongs to a media organisation and the connection given to them was already cut in 2020, said the BESCOM engineer.

“We have learnt that an illegal electricity line was set up to power the advertising board. The wire used for the connection was very small and it should not be used. The insulation of the wire had worn out and had come in contact with the metal advertisement board. The electrocution happened after the man accidentally touched it," said HD Chennakeshava.
