Agnys Waste Management Pvt. Ltd., a SIIC IIT Kanpur-incubated company, has developed an automatic composting machine known as Bhoomi., in collaboration with Imagineering Lab, IIT Kanpur, which is a significant move towards efficient waste management and mitigating climate change.
BHOOMI stands for Bio-composting of Horticulture and Organic waste into Manure Indigenously. The research and development for the device has been supported by Engineer’s India Limited.
The device is equipped with advanced features like carbon filters, shredders, air pumps, solar panels, which systematically convert waste into manure in just 10-20 days. The process is more convenient and rapid than the conventional technologies.
“Proper waste management has always been a very pertinent and crucial issue, especially in urban areas. It has direct implications for the ever-growing concern for climate change,” said Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur.
“At IIT Kanpur, we resolve to work for sustainability and other key areas of environmental conservation. This is a prime step in this regard and I congratulate the whole team for developing BHOOMI,” he said.
“I believe this device would be a boon for treating organic waste and would contribute significantly towards the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives,” he added.
With surmounting concerns for climate change, the need for proper waste management is of paramount importance. To achieve this, it is also necessary to bring effective innovations at the grass root level.
