Hundreds of students, including student police cadets, Junior Red Cross and National Service Scheme volunteers, besides Kudumbashree workers assembled at Mananchira Square in Kozhikode on Friday evening to be part of the 'Anti-drug campaign' of the Kozhikode Corporation. District Collector N. Tej Lohit Reddy, MLA Thottathil Raveendran, IMHANS Director Dr. P. Krishna Kumar and Assistant Commissioner of Excise Benjamin participated in the event, which was presided over by Mayor Beena Philip. Students of St. Vincent Colony School conducted a flash mob, while NSS, SPC and JRC volunteers flew 2,000 hydrogen balloons. The Mayor administered the oath against drugs to the gathering.
The restoration and redevelopment of the decades-old Calve College Government school, a landmark that occupies a prominent place in the city’s history is nearing completion. The Puducherry Smart City Development Limited (PSCDL), which has taken up the restoration, has planned to complete the work by the first week of July. The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is the architectural consultant for PSCDL, while Puducherry Technological University (PTU) is the structural consultant. The work commenced in August 2021 and costs ₹4.75 crore.
Works are under way to establish smart classrooms equipped with broadband connectivity in as many as 20,000 panchayat union primary schools and to establish hi-tech laboratories with similar Internet connectivity in 6,992 panchayat union primary schools across Tamil Nadu, the Director of Elementary Education (DEE) has informed the Madras High Court.
