Annamalai University distance learning courses are invalid, UGC warns students

UGC has warned students that Annamalai University's distance learning courses are invalid and that students should not take admission into the same.
UGC has warned students not to opt for Annamalai University’s distance courses as they are not approved by the commission. The latest notice by UGC says that the university has been running Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes which are “in gross violation of all conditions laid down under UGC” rules and regulations.
A UGC notice from March 25 said, “ODL programmes offered by the Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu without prior approval of UGC are invalid and the university is solely responsible for the carer consequences of the students, if any, arising out of the same.”
The notice added that no higher educational institution should offer any open or distance learning courses without prior approval from UGC.
Annamalai University’s distance courses were recognised till the academic year 2014-15 but no further recognition has been accorded to the varsity.
Annamalai University’s websites states that it offers more than 200 programmes under its ODL and that the courses are approved by the Distance Education Council of New Delhi.
