Anganwadi workers seek time scale of pay

Scores of Anganwadi workers and assistants staged a demonstration here on Tuesday protesting against attempts to privatise the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
Led by their association district president B. Rajeswari, the protesters said that the government should provide time scale of pay for Anganwadi workers and assistants. “As of now, the minimum salary for workers is ₹7,700, and the maximum is ₹10,000. We are asked to work between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. We have been demanding to give us time scale of pay instead of special time scale of pay,” the association’s district secretary, A. Varadalakshmi, said.
Besides, pensionary benefit of ₹10 lakh for workers and ₹5 lakh for assistants should be given.
The present pension of ₹2,000 was meagre and not sufficient to take care of the family, she said and added that a minimum of ₹9,000 shoule be given as pension. Besides, the government should extend family pension to ICDS workers and assistants, she said.
