
Airtel-backed OneWeb launches another 36 satellites, aims to bring Starlink-like broadband to India

OneWeb on Tuesday launched 36 satellites to bring an in-orbit constellation to 394 satellites. The company noted that it will bring its LEO satellite fleet to 60 percent deployed that will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity.
Bharti backed OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications company Tuesday announced that it is launching 36 more satellites by Arianespace from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This latest launch, and the 9th since December 2020, will bring OneWeb’s in-orbit constellation to 394 satellites. This will represent 60 percent of OneWeb’s planned 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity. OneWeb aims to launch a total of 648 LEO satellites to roll out a high-speed global internet connection including to the most remote corners of the world. Earlier in September, the British-based firm launched 34 satellites into orbit from a cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
