
56 acre land approved for GIMS Greater Noida by UP govt

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved 56 acres of land for GIMS Greater Noida.
A decision to hand over a 56-acre piece of land to the Government Insitute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) free of cost was taken by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday. As per an official statement, the land which belongs to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is located at the Gautam Buddh University campus.
The statement further informed that in addition to facilitating healthcare facilities, GIMS Greater Noida has also been running an MBBS training programme for 100 students since 2019 and postgraduate courses from 2020.
It was observed by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, “Presently, there is no land and building in the ownership of Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida. The college building, library and hostel buildings, etc have been taken on rent from Gautam Buddha University.”
Explaining the National Medical Commission requirements, it further stated, “According to the standards of the National Medical Commission, it is necessary to have a college building, library, and other buildings in the ownership of the institution for the operation and expansion of the institute.”
The UP Cabinet further said that GIMS Greater Noida is a public utility institute and will provide excellent medical education and treatment facilities for the people of the state, bridging the patient-doctor ratio which is amongst the state government’s priorities.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, GIMS Director Brig (Retd) Rakesh said, “We are very happy. It has been four years of struggle and now we aim to take GIMS further ahead as an institute of healthcare and education.”
