The new generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be launched in India on May 10, 2022 and ahead of its arrival, bookings have commenced for the C200 (petrol) and C300d (diesel) variants.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the next-generation C-Class sedan will be launched in India on May 10, 2022. The W206 C-Class made its global debut last year, and now in its fifth generation, shares a good amount of design and tech with the S-Class.
The sedan has been a volume seller for the German marque with around 37,000 units sold in India. It will be launched in C200 petrol and C220d and C300d diesel variants. Bookings have been opened exclusively for existing Mercedes-Benz customers for Rs 50,000 from April 13 to 30 and will be open to everyone else May 1 onwards.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “The C-Class is an important product in our portfolio and will strengthen our luxury sedan offering even more. With every new generation, the loyal customers of the C-Class have preferred the car owing to its superior comfort, technological prowess and evolving design. The new C-Class now creates a new benchmark by excelling in design, comfort and tech offerings, moving closer to the New S-Class, rightly underlining its popularity as the Baby S-Class.”
Presently, the C-Class resembles the much larger S-Class closely thanks to the angular nose and similar headlamp housings. Both cars share the Mercedes MRA II platform. The grille features a mesh appearance with a silver garnish running through the width with the three-pointed star in the middle. The rear too mimics the S-Class, with the rear window and boot lid forming a singular design element with similar taillamps. It is longer than the outgoing car, with a wheelbase of 2,865mm compared to 2,840mm of the older car.
The interiors too draw heavy inspiration from the S-Class, with the portrait-oriented 10.25-inch infotainment touch display in the centre that is also used for climate control functions and other features. A 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch instrument panel is available, depending upon the variant. The general list of features will include multi-zone climate control, sunroof, engine modes, ventilated seats and more.
Mercedes-Benz will offer a petrol and two diesel engines for the C-Class. The C200 will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol making 197bhp, the C220d with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel making 197bhp and the C300d with the same diesel mill tuned to churn out 261bhp. All three engines will be mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Details about the trim options have not been revealed by Mercedes yet. The car will directly rival the BMW 3-Series, Volvo S60, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE upon launch. Expect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class starting price to fall in the Rs 45-50 lakh (ex-shworoom) bracket.
