
104 Olive Ridley hatchlings released into sea to mark Seagrass Day at Kodiakkarai

104 Olive Ridley hatchlings were released into the sea at Kodiakkarai to celebrate World Seagrass Day.
The Forest department officials released 104 Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings that emerged from an artificial hatchery into the sea at Kodiakkarai near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district on Sunday to mark the World Seagress Day. Officials said that 4,235 hatchlings have been released so far this season from the centre.
Later, a programme was organised at the Government Higher Secondary School in Kodiakkarai.
The speakers highlighted the ecological importance of seagrass meadows, their role in sustaining the marine food chain, and their contribution to biodiversity conservation.
Wildlife Warden D. Rameshwaran presided over the programme. Forest Range Officer A. Joseph Daniel was present.
Wildlife researcher Sivaganesan and headmaster Vetrivelan spoke.
Mr. Rameshwaran later interacted with students during a field visit to the forest area and shared insights from his experience in wildlife conservation. Forester T. Ilanchezhiyan was present.
