Women’s panel issues notice to Delhi Police in connection with attack on 16-year-old girl

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police in connection with an attack on a 16-year-old girl.

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police in connection with the attack on a 16-year-old girl in the Tilak Nagar area of Delhi.

The Commission received a complaint from the mother of the minor girl. The complainant informed the commission that she is a single mother and has a 16-year-old daughter.

She stated that a boy studied with her daughter in a coaching centre and used to harass her. According to the mother, the boy regularly threatened the girl by calling her from different mobile numbers. She alleged that a complaint was lodged by them in the local police station against the boy, however, the police asked them to compromise. She informed that on July 7, the boy attacked her daughter with a knife and stabbed her brutally. Presently, the girl is admitted in a hospital and her condition is said to be critical.

Taking cognizance of the matter, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued notice to Delhi Police and has sought an action taken report in the same.

In the notice, Swati Maliwal has sought the details of FIR and details of the arrest made. The Commission has also asked the details of action taken on earlier complaints of the girl and her family. Further, the Commission has asked the details of any enquiry conducted on the allegation made by the mother regarding compromise on earlier complaint.

DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal stated, “We have received a very serious case, a 16-year-old girl was stabbed by a boy who was stalking and threatening her for a long time. The mother of the girl has alleged that the police made them settle for a compromise on their earlier complaint. I have issued a notice to Delhi Police and have sought an action taken report. Strong action must be taken in this matter and an example must be set.”
