A quiet Rajasthan village is shaken after an elderly woman's brutal killing exposes chilling details of greed, betrayal and violence, as police trace how the crime unfolded and a neighbour emerged as the accused.
75-year-old Nathi Devi Bawri stepped out of her home in Paldi Kalan village in Rajasthan's Nagaur on the morning of March 16. She had gone to arrange fodder for her animals. Her family said she was wearing gold and silver jewellery worth nearly Rs 7 lakh.
She did not return.
By evening, the family began searching for her in the village and nearby fields. When there was still no trace through the night, concern grew.
On March 17, villagers spotted a plastic sack lying in bushes near Pachranda village. When they opened it, they found a mutilated body of an elderly woman. The head and feet were missing, and the jewellery had been removed.
Police later confirmed that the throat and legs had been severed.
The condition of the body indicated an attempt to prevent identification. The remains had been cut into pieces and packed in sacks before being dumped in a deserted area.
