A woman has revealed that her neighbourhood dry-cleaning business earns over Rs 2 lakh in profit on average every month - an income that has drawn comparisons with white-collar salaries in India’s tech sector.
Nalini Unagar, who is a content creator by profession, recounted a recent conversation with the owners of the dry-cleaning shop she visits frequently in a post on X. The shop is run by a couple, supported by two salaried helpers.
The couple claimed they earn over Rs 2 lakh in profit every month - an amount comparable to the salary of a software engineer with more than a decade of experience.
Unagar broke down the couple’s earnings in detail. They iron around 350 garments daily at Rs 10 per piece, generating Rs 3,500 per day. In addition, about 20 heavy garments such as suits, lehengas and premium sarees are dry-cleaned and ironed at Rs 350 each, adding another Rs 7,000 daily. This brings the total daily revenue to approximately Rs 10,500.
With only three days off each month, the shop’s monthly income works out to Rs 2.83 lakh over 27 working days.
As per the post, the shop incurs no rental cost as the owners possess the property. Monthly expenses include an electricity bill of roughly Rs 6,000 and salaries of Rs 40,000 for two helpers. After deducting expenses, the couple makes a net profit of around Rs 2.37 lakh.

Leon Panetta said Iran war was not an unexpected risk. He pointed out that for years, US security officials have known Iran could disrupt global oil supplies by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this was a well-known danger, but one that appears to have been overlooked in the current conflict.
