Will take action if..: India on Trump's don't want to destroy PM's career quip

US President Trump made the bizarre remark about PM Modi's political career in October last year amid a strain in US-India ties over the trade deal and tariffs.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said it would take "appropriate action" after an old video of US President Donald Trump's remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political career resurfaced on social media. Trump made the bizarre remark jokingly in October last year amid a strain in US-India ties over the trade deal and tariffs linked to Delhi's Russian oil purchases.
A video of Trump's remark has emerged again on X, prompting reporters to question the MEA spokesperson during his weekly media briefing. Randhir Jaiswal, the MEA spokesperson, said he had not seen the video, but if it existed, "appropriate action" would be taken.
"I have not seen the video... However, if such a video exists, whether it is true or false, we will take appropriate action on it," Jaiswal said in tough remarks.
The eccentric US President made the remarks on October 15, 2025, as he lavished praise on PM Modi after he claimed that India assured the US on halting oil purchases from Russia. Trump, being Trump, boasted even though India denied any such concrete assurance.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
