Authorities say he coordinated with handlers in India, Pakistan, and abroad, aiming to overthrow democratic governance and establish Sharia law under an ISIS-style caliphate.
The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a man named Harish Ali from Saharanpur for allegedly promoting ISIS ideology and recruiting members for terrorist activities in India. Harish, a BDS second-year student, was arrested from Moradabad while acting on inputs received by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) over the past few months regarding the suspect’s activities.
Investigators said Harish created and managed multiple online groups on Instagram and encrypted apps such as Session and Discord, often using pseudonyms and VPNs to hide his identity. Through these channels, he shared ISIS propaganda, magazines, videos, and audios glorifying killed terrorists, while recruiting new members into the organisation.
He also founded Al Ittihad Media Foundation, a separate group aimed at strengthening ISIS operations in India. Harish reportedly coordinated with ISIS handlers and operatives in Pakistan and other countries.
Authorities said Harish sought to topple India’s democratic system and impose a caliphate under Sharia law. He encouraged followers to carry out fidayeen-style attacks and spread jihadist ideology.
He closely followed ISIS media outlets, including the magazine Dabiq and news channel Al-Naba, sharing extremist instructions and propaganda with his network.
In a separate incident, the Punjab Police on Saturday arrested Gursevak Singh alias Suraj and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit in connection with an ISI-backed terror and arms smuggling module.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
