Three Congress MLAs in Bihar are reportedly out of contact as voting for five Rajya Sabha seats is underway, with the INDIA bloc and the BJP-led NDA locked in a tight contest for the fifth seat that could hinge on cross-voting.
Three Congress MLAs in Bihar are reportedly out of contact with the party as the Rajya Sabha election progresses, with the INDIA bloc locked in a direct contest with the BJP-led NDA one crucial seat. According to sources, their phones are either switched off or they are not responding to calls.
While the victory of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Ramnath Thakur from the JDU, as well as BJP's Nitin Nabin and Shivam Kumar, is considered assured, the fifth seat is witnessing a tight contest between NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha and the Mahagathbandhan’s AD Singh.
The RJD-Congress-led Grand Alliance, which currently has 35 MLAs, requires the support of 41 legislators to secure victory. All five MLAs from the AIMIM have announced their support for Tejashwi Yadav’s party, and the alliance also counts one BSP MLA among its ranks.
For Kushwaha to win, the NDA would need votes from at least three MLAs belonging to the Grand Alliance. In this context, the absence of the missing MLAs -- Surendra Kushwaha from Valmikinagar, Manoj Biswas from Forbesganj and Manohar Prasad from Manihari -- becomes crucial in the Bihar contest.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
