Why Bangladeshis are calling 12th-pass Tarique Rahman an engineer
India Today
After the BNP's sweeping victory in Bangladesh, the Jamaat-e-Islami and its ally, the NCP, alleged poll engineering and began calling Tarique Rahman an "engineer". Bangladeshis have started flooding social media with memes and jokes, claiming Tarique "engineered" the results in the BNP's favour.
Following the BNP's landslide victory in the Bangladesh elections, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has given the party's chief and now the prime minister, Tarique Rahman, a new moniker, "engineer".
NCP leader, Nasiruddin Patwary, who had labelled BNP heavyweight Mirza Abbas, a "chaandabaaj" (meaning extortionist or illegal fundraiser), was among the first to call Tarique Rahman an "engineer" on Facebook. The NCP, born out of the anti-Sheikh Hasina agitation, is part of the Jamaat-led alliance.
Alongside threats of launching protests if the BNP sidesteps the July Charter, the Jamaat alliance is attacking the BNP supremo for what it called the "stealing of poll mandate". Several leaders of the Jamaat aliance, including the NCP, have alleged that the BNP-led Tarique Rahman "engineered" the election results.
There have been reports of large-scale rigging and result manipulation in the national election in Bangladesh conducted on February 12.
These allegations and name-calling have resulted in many people—allied with the NCP and Jamaat—making memes and posting jokes on social media. Some have made AI-generated photos and videos showing Tarique Rahman wearing a hard hat. On February 17, some people even congratulated the new Prime Minister, calling him an "engineer".
A Facebook user, Amir Hossain Robin, wrote, "London theke engineer pass". It loosely translates to "engineer passed from London". It is a sarcastic swipe suggesting that the so-called "engineering" was imported or masterminded from London, where Tarique Rahman had been living in exile for 17 years.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.

When we look at Iran through the prism of religion and see a Shia Islamic country, we negate its thousands of years of rich pre-Islamic Persian culture. A dive into the world of Zoroastrianism and Vedas shows us how Indians and Iranians have been sharing languages, Gods, sciences and a sacred fire for thousands of years.
