An incident involving a promotional robot in Macau has raised safety concerns after a woman was startled, prompting police intervention and renewed focus on robotics in public spaces.
You may have heard of people being confronted for making someone uncomfortable in public. But in China’s Macau, it was a humanoid robot that ended up being escorted away by police after an elderly woman was startled by its sudden presence.
The robot, which stands roughly four feet tall, was reportedly being tested in public by a man in his 50s who works with a local education centre. According to a report by South China Morning Post, the machine had been used for promotional activities around the city when the unexpected encounter occurred.
The situation unfolded when a woman in her seventies was walking along the street while looking at her phone. As she continued walking, she failed to notice the robot positioned behind her. When she finally turned around and suddenly came face-to-face with the machine, the surprise frightened her.
The woman reportedly confronted the robot in anger, and the situation soon drew the attention of people nearby. Police officers eventually arrived at the scene and intervened. In the video now widely shared online, one officer can be seen placing a hand on the robot’s shoulder before escorting it away from the spot.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.

When we look at Iran through the prism of religion and see a Shia Islamic country, we negate its thousands of years of rich pre-Islamic Persian culture. A dive into the world of Zoroastrianism and Vedas shows us how Indians and Iranians have been sharing languages, Gods, sciences and a sacred fire for thousands of years.
