US President Donald Trump offered an unconventional explanation on Thursday for why he hired Doug Burgum as US interior secretary, apparently suggesting he appointed Doug Burgum primarily because he found Burgum’s wife, Kathryn, attractive after seeing a video of them riding horses together.

As the event wrapped up, Trump recounted how he first encountered the couple in a campaign-style video. It was Kathryn Burgum, he said, who stood out. “I saw them riding horses in a video and I said, ‘Who is that?’” Trump said, gesturing toward her. “I was talking about her, not him.”

Trump said aides then explained who the couple were and that was enough to make an impression.
“They explained it, and I said, ‘I’m going to hire him,’ because anybody that has somebody like you to be with, it’s an amazing tribute,” the President said.
