Water level in Papanasam dam on Tuesday was 142.30 feet (maximum permissible level 143 ft.) with an inflow of 1,732.67 cusecs and discharge of 1,400 cusecs. The level in Manimuthar dam was 118 ft (118 ft) with an inflow and discharge of 710 cusecs each. There was no rainfall in the region during the last 24 hours ending 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
“We are judges and therefore, cannot act like Mughals of a bygone era ... the writ courts in the guise of doing justice cannot transcend the barriers of law,” the High Court of Karnataka observed while setting aside an order of a single judge, who in 2016 had extended the lease of a public premises allotted to a physically challenged person to 20 years contrary to 12-year period stipulated in the law.
