Exim Bank donates retinal camera to enhance rural infant eye care through teleophthalmology initiative targeting Retinopathy of Prematurity.
The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has donated a 3nethra Neo retinal camera to (Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation (GVRF), the charitable trust of Radhatri Nethralaya, to strengthen screening of preterm infants in rural areas.
The device will be deployed under ‘Project Vision on Wheels,’ a teleophthalmology initiative that screens babies in villages for blinding conditions. A team led by general manager Dharmendra Sachan handed over the camera during a visit to the hospital.
Praveen Krishna, trustee, GVRF and medical director, Radhatri Nethralaya, said the programme targets Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) among underprivileged families in rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, with affected infants brought to Chennai for free treatment. Technicians travel up to 400 km for screenings. Vasumathy Vedantham, managing trustee, GVRF and medical director, Radhatri Nethralaya, were present.
