Rahul Dravid turned emotional as the KSCA named a Chinnaswamy Stadium stand after him in Bengaluru. The former India great called the venue his second home during a heartfelt thank-you speech.
Former India batter and World Cup-winning head coach Rahul Dravid turned emotional as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) honoured him with a stand named after him at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tribute, shared with fellow India great Anil Kumble, made for a full-circle moment at the ground that has been the backdrop of so much Karnataka cricket history.
Dravid delivered a heartfelt thank-you speech at the ceremony, reflecting on his deep bond with the venue and the memories stitched into it. Speaking at the event, the former India head coach called Chinnaswamy his second home and expressed sincere gratitude for the recognition.
"I can never be more grateful for what the KSCA and this great ground and this iconic ground have given me in my life," he added.
The KSCA, led by former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who once shared the dressing room with both legends, unveiled the tribute in recognition of Dravid and Kumble’s immense contributions to Indian and Karnataka cricket. Apart from the duo, former India women’s captain Shantha Rangaswamy was also honoured with a stand in her name.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been central to Dravid’s cricketing life, from the days of being a young boy in the stands to becoming one of Karnataka’s greatest icons. Dravid spoke of spending more time at the stadium than at home.
Dravid also looked back on childhood visits to the stadium with his father, moments that first sparked his love for cricket and made the honour feel even more personal.
