Despite India's successful T20 World Cup title defence, no Indian men's cricketer was shortlisted for the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for February. But India have representation in the women's category, with pacer Arundhati Reddy nominated.
No Indian cricketer was nominated for February’s Player of the Month, despite India’s T20 World Cup triumph on home soil. On March 8, India became the first team in the tournament’s history to successfully defend their title, beating Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand by 96 runs in the final in Ahmedabad.
Following the win, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah were named in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament. However, none of them made the shortlist for February’s Player of the Month award. Instead, the nominees were Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, England’s Will Jacks, and USA’s Shadley van Schalkwyk.
Farhan finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 383 runs at a strike rate of 160.25 and an average of 76.60, breaking Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a single edition. He also became the first batter to score two centuries in one Men’s T20 World Cup.
Jacks played a key role in England’s run to the semi-finals, scoring 194 runs at a strike rate of 173.21 while also claiming 11 wickets. His all-round brilliance saw him become the first player to win four Player of the Match awards in a single edition.
Meanwhile, Van Schalkwyk starred with the ball for the United States, picking up 13 wickets at an economy of 7.76, including two superb four-wicket hauls against India and Pakistan.
Although no Indian men’s cricketer was nominated for the Player of the Month award, pacer Arundhati Reddy earned a nomination in the women’s category for February. Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana were also shortlisted.
