Pakistan cricketers not fined after T20 World Cup poor show: PCB dismisses reports

The PCB has denied reports that Pakistan players were fined PKR 5 million each for their T20 World Cup exit, with spokesperson Amir Mir clarifying that no penalties have been imposed, though the board is considering a performance-based accountability formula.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday rubbished reports claiming that members of its T20 World Cup squad had been penalised for failing to reach the semifinals. PCB spokesperson Amir Mir rejected the speculation, saying no fines had been imposed on the players.
Earlier reports had claimed that the board was considering a major financial penalty after Pakistan’s disappointing 2026 T20 World Cup campaign. As per The Express Tribune, each player was reportedly set to be fined PKR 5 million (around Rs 16 lakh) for not meeting expectations.
Mir, however, made it clear that no such move had been finalised. He said the board was only exploring ways to make players more accountable for their performances, especially given that they currently earn around PKR 6-7 crore.
"No player has been fined but yes the board is thinking about working out a formula for players because they get lot of incentives when they perform well. But nothing is final and no player has been fined," Mir told reporters, as quoted by PTI.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign ended in disappointment as the former champions failed to reach the semifinals. They finished second in Group A with six points and a net run rate of +0.976, qualifying for the Super Eight after wins over the Netherlands, USA and Namibia.
Their only loss in the group stage came against India, while a dominant 102-run win over Namibia in Colombo confirmed their place in the next round.
