The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out three consecutive flight trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from the Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha. The trials were aimed at revalidating the missile system’s capability to effectively neutralise fast-moving aerial threats under varied operational conditions.
The tests demonstrated the system’s ability to intercept and destroy high-speed targets simulating enemy aircraft across different ranges, altitudes and speeds.
Conducted in its final deployment configuration, the trials involved field operators handling target acquisition and missile firing, reflecting real-time battlefield scenarios.
According to officials, the system successfully met all designated engagement parameters during the exercises.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the achievement, stating on X, "The DRDO has successfully conducted three successive flight trials of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha".
