VMRDA sets May deadline to complete seven Master Plan roads connecting Bhogapuram airport

VMRDA aims to complete seven Master Plan roads by May 2026, enhancing connectivity to Bhogapuram airport amid ongoing challenges.
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (VMRDA) project for the development of seven crucial Master Plan roads is moving forward, with varied levels of progress reported across different stretches.
This project, valued at an estimated contract cost of ₹174.64 crore, is being executed by a joint venture between M/s. Venkateswara Constructions and N. Nageswara Rao & Co. The project aims to significantly enhance connectivity and ease traffic congestion in key areas of the region.
The VMRDA, during a field visit along with with the media on Saturday, inspected the progress of the works and explained the latest status.
According to the officials, 60 per cent of the project work has been completed, and a deadline of May 2026 has been set for completion of all the roads.
“For instance, the Gambheeram Road-1 is 66% complete. Most of the foundation and intermediate road layers have been finished. The primary remaining task is laying the final DBM (Dense Bituminous Macadam) and BC (Bituminous Concrete) layers, with a target of completing the work by April 30, 2026,” a VMRDA official said.
The project includes longer and more complex stretches. Work on the 8.02-km Adavivaram-Sontyam road is 31.75% complete. It is estimated to be ready by May 29, 2026. This 100-foot and six-lane road from Adavivaram Junction at BRTS (Sontyam Road) to Gandigudam NH-16 Junction is facing a major bottleneck.
