Ajit Pawar died in a fatal plane crash when he was headed to Baramati for public meetings.
A plane carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed while attempting a landing in Baramati on Wednesday morning, killing all five on board.
The crash was captured on a nearby CCTV camera which showed the aircraft crashing on the ground behind a small shop. Just seconds later, a huge ball of fire emerges in the background.
Pawar was on his way to Baramati to attend four key meetings ahead of the upcoming Zila Parishad elections. Two pilots and Ajit's two security personnel (1 PSO and 1 attendant) also died in the crash, which happened as the chartered aircraft was attempting a second emergency landing at Baramati airport.
"Five people on board the Mumbai to Baramati charter plane, which crash-landed, have died," the DGCA said in a statement. The aviation regulator said the aircraft could have crashed due to poor visibility. The pilots on board were Sumit Kapoor and Sambhavi Pathak.
The aircraft, a Bombardier Learjet 45, crashed during its second landing approach. The aircraft, which was 16 years old, belongs to Delhi-based charter company VSR.
The entire aircraft was reduced to ashes and visuals from the crash site showed the plane completely shattered and debris scattered all around.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
