
Video: IAF airlifts paralysed woman, 85, after snowfall blocks Himachal roads

An IAF Cheetah helicopter airlifted an 85-year-old paralysed woman from a remote Himachal Pradesh village to Chandigarh after snowfall cut off-road access, as parts of the state continued to receive snow and rain under a weather warning.
An Indian Air Force (IAF) Cheetah helicopter on Sunday carried out an emergency medical evacuation of an 85-year-old paralysed woman from the remote village of Dhanderwari in Himachal Pradesh to Chandigarh after heavy snowfall blocked all road access.
The evacuation was carried out from an altitude of around 9,000 feet above mean sea level amid active snowfall and low visibility. The woman was airlifted for urgent medical care and is now stable after receiving timely treatment, officials said.
The IAF also shared a video on social media platform X showing its personnel carrying the elderly woman on a stretcher through the snow and carefully loading her into the helicopter before airlifting her to Chandigarh.
Himachal Pradesh witnessed light snowfall and rainfall across several regions on Sunday, even as a yellow weather warning remained in place, cautioning against thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
Shillaroo in Shimla district and Kothi in Kullu district recorded 5 cm of snowfall, while Kufri received 4 cm. Gondhla village in Lahaul and Spiti saw 3 cm of snow, followed by Khadrala in Shimla at 2.5 cm, Sangla in Kinnaur at 2.1 cm and Kalpa at 0.8 cm.
Rainfall was highest in Manali at 10 mm, followed by Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur district at 7.8 mm. Shimla recorded 4.2 mm of rain, Solan 3.4 mm, Nadaun 2.6 mm and Nahan 2.4 mm.
