Local authorities said air defence systems were activated after alerts were sent to mobile phones in Dubai warning residents of incoming threats.
A building at the Dubai International Financial Centre sustained visible damage on Friday morning after authorities reported a "successful interception," following missile alerts across the city amid escalating tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the US, the Associated Press reported.
Local authorities said air defence systems were activated after alerts were sent to mobile phones in Dubai warning residents of incoming threats.
Soon after the interception, videos circulated widely on social media showing thick plumes of black smoke rising from a building within the financial district.
The structure affected was identified as the DIFC Innovation Hub, where parts of the exterior facade appeared damaged and signs of fire were visible on Friday morning. Pieces of the outer cladding were reportedly torn away following the incident.
The Dubai Media Office initially described the development as a "successful interception," but did not specify the nature of the threat that had been intercepted or provide details about its origin. Authorities also did not immediately comment on the extent of the damage to the DIFC building.
Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the site to secure the area. Officials said no injuries were reported and the situation was brought under control shortly afterward.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.

When we look at Iran through the prism of religion and see a Shia Islamic country, we negate its thousands of years of rich pre-Islamic Persian culture. A dive into the world of Zoroastrianism and Vedas shows us how Indians and Iranians have been sharing languages, Gods, sciences and a sacred fire for thousands of years.
