In a statement, Mr. Vasan said farmers had raised crops and cattle by taking loans through various sources. They pointed out that the disaster relief announced by the State government was not sufficient and urged the administration to disburse at least ₹30,000 per acre as compensation, he said.
The State government could have fixed the compensation amount by consulting various stakeholders affected by the floods, he further said, adding that it should conduct a survey to enumerate the actual damages caused by the cyclone and revise the compensation based on the farmers’ demands.
