CPI(M) leader in Kerala faces charges for alleged sexual relations under false marriage promise, leading to woman's suicide attempt.
A case has been registered against a former local CPI(M) leader at Ranni in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, for allegedly having sexual relations with a woman for over two years under the false promise of marriage, the police said on Friday.
The issue came to light after the 32-year-old woman reportedly attempted suicide after the accused allegedly withdrew from his promise to marry her, they said.
According to the police, the accused — Alan Mathew — had sexual relations with the woman several times since June 2024 after promising to marry her.
The woman got pregnant and upon realising that the accused was not going to marry her, she filed a complaint with the police, the officer said.
When the police went to record her statement, she said she only wanted to marry the accused and did not want to register a case, he said.
The accused had also applied for a registered marriage and the date for that was fixed on March 23, the officer said. However, he recently withdrew from his promise and the woman attempted suicide on March 18, the officer said.
