Uttarakhand CM Dhami chairs emergency meet amid incessant rainfall, high alert

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday chaired an emergency meeting with officials to check the preparedness of the state amid heavy rainfall.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday reached the Disaster Management Centre and chaired an emergency meeting with officials on the heavy rainfall situation in the state. Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu and Secretary Ranjit Sinha also participated in the meeting. Secretary Ranjit Sinha briefed CM Dhami on the preparedness of the state to deal with the incessant rainfall situation.
Torrential rains continued to wreak havoc in Uttarakhand, leading to landslides, waterlogging and flood-like situation in several districts on Tuesday. Amid heavy rainfall, five roads were closed for vehicular movement.

Furthermore, schools from Class 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi centres remained closed in Bageshwar, Tehri, Pauri, Pithoragarh and Nainital districts amid a heavy rain alert for Wednesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 20 for seven districts in Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts of Uttarakhand," the IMD said.
