Uranium found in water of 29 areas in Kanpur including Chakeri, shows IIT Kanpur research

Research by IIT Kanpur shows that the water in 29 areas in Kanpur including Chakeri contains uranium.
IIT Kanpur researchers have found the presence of uranium in the water in 29 areas in Kanpur, including Chakeri.
Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Kanpur, Indra Shekhar Sen and research scholar Dr. Sarwar Nizam had tested the water samples of India Mark II handpumps in 192 areas of Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat.
During the investigation, it was found that the amount of uranium in the water of 30 percent of the hand pumps is much more than the World Health Organization's standard (30 micrograms per litre).
In the samples of some hand pumps of Chakeri in the city, the amount of uranium has been found ten times more than the standard -- 253.29 microgram per liter level of uranium has been found in Chakeri and the surrounding area. This is several times higher than the standard.
Other measured uranium quantities in water re -- 92.88 in Gandhigram GT Road, 43.06 in Daheli Sujanpur, 39.95 micrograms per liter in Purvamir, 116.36 in Sakrawan, 114.14 in Sihari, Ghatampur, 112.83 micrograms per liter of uranium has been found in Rahimpur poison.
The level of uranium is also dangerous in Dhul, Chaubepur, Jhinjhak, Maitha, Khanchandpur, Bhonti, Fatehpur.
District Magistrate Visakh G Iyer told India Today that if uranium is found in water, then it is a matter of concern. He said they will speak to the IIT Kanpur director and the researchers regarding where the uranium is coming from, the levels of it, and what steps to take to save people from its ill effects.
